Man Dies After Copenhagen Road Incident

One man is dead after an incident in the Municipality of Shuniah.

Thunder Bay OPP tell us they were called to Copenhagen Road Thursday afternoon just after 4:30 to reports of a man in distress.

A short time later police say they found a man dead outside a house.

Police add the Special Investigations Unit has been called in, which means no further details will be given by police.

SIU Preliminary information suggests the following:
• At approximately 5 p.m. on March 12, 2020 Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers responded to a residence for a man in distress. Officers also had information the man had access to firearms.
• When OPP officers neared the residence, they saw the man walking away from the residence, carrying what appeared to be a firearm.
• A short while later, the OPP officers apparently heard a gunshot and the man was located deceased.
The SIU has assigned two investigators and one forensics investigator.
  • Originally from southern Ontario, Jason found his way here and fell in love with the community and music scene of Thunder Bay over twenty years ago. In between various stints on radio, television and writing, Jason is a dad, a partner and (some would consider) a zoo keeper (seriously, he has a LOT of pets).
