There isn’t too much concern for the owner of Gary’s Towing in Thunder Bay tow truck turf wars in southern Ontario will happen in the north.
David Allen tells us provincial government legislation is coming to curb some tow drivers from destroying the property of other companies who follow the rules and work off commission.
“License them properly, make sure everybody is certified. They’re looking at trying to follow the taxis, with licensing of trucks and licensing of drivers,” says Allen.
The towing company owner adds a distribution system is used by police in northern Ontario ensuring different tow companies are called.
He adds the legislation is to weed out the ones taking kickbacks.
“The turf war is more for the chasers, not even the legitimate companies. They’re all just chasers, and they make their money on commission basis, so they’re out there making sure no one else gets their calls,” points out the towing company owner.
Premier Doug Ford has said he’s going after the tow drivers not following the rules and causing problems, and they will go to jail.
