The Ontario Fire Marshal’s office has completed their investigation of a March 1st fire at the former Odd Fellows Hall.
Deputy Fire Chief Dave Paxton tells us the cause is going down as undetermined, “Although they had identified the location of origin, in their mind, to be the third floor,” Paxton explains.
The Deputy Fire Chief notes the Fire Marshal’s Office and police decided no further investigation was warranted. That is partly due to the high costs of investigating the third floor.
“From the Fire Department’s perspective, it is a vacant building, under the Fire Code we have orders against the building to ensure it is secure,” he adds.
The fire continued to smoulder for over a day, leading to road closures and the evacuation of the nearby Shelter House.
