Canada is moving forward on banning conversion therapy.
It’s a practice that aims to make gay or bisexual people heterosexual, and has been banned in several American states.
A bill was introduced yesterday in the House of Commons, and Thunder Pride Chair Jason Veltri is happy to hear the news.
“The government’s meaningful steps forward today, showing that they are going to ban conversion therapy nationwide, is a very important day for the health and wellness of Canadians,” Veltri says.
The Chair of Thunder Pride adds there should be no debate about banning the practice, and it needs to be stopped.
The Federal Liberal government promised the ban of conversion therapy in their election platform. Veltri says the legislation shows “they’re with us in this fight for equality and basic human rights for all.”
