Thunder Bay Monitoring COVID-19

An update from the City of Thunder Bay in its plans to be ready should the Coronavirus spread to this area.

Mayor Bill Mauro’s office says he met with the Municipal Emergency Operations Control Group in January, to find out the city is prioritizing programs and services, should there be staff shortages due to illness. There could also potentially be a lack of general supplies to Thunder Bay due to suppliers affected by the virus.

He also met with Thunder Bay’s Medical Officer of Health, Dr Janet DeMille, who confirmed there are no presumptive or confirmed cases of the COVID-19 virus in the district.

City Manager Norm Gale adds all health care workers have personal protective equipment for their jobs, and the city is constantly reviewing and updating how well its prepared should the virus make it here.

  • Originally from southern Ontario, Jason found his way here and fell in love with the community and music scene of Thunder Bay over twenty years ago. In between various stints on radio, television and writing, Jason is a dad, a partner and (some would consider) a zoo keeper (seriously, he has a LOT of pets).
