VIDEO: Celebrities Pump Up Thunder Bay Games

There are several celebrities in the city for the Special Olympic Canada Winter Games. One is Olympic ice dancer Scott Moir.

He points out there is a lot of bonding among the athletes which goes on at these games and it must be seen to be appreciated.

“I think Special Olympics and what they bring to the sporting community is so special. If you have never been to a Special Olympics in your community or in your province or in your nation you need to go,” says Moir.

The champion skater believes going to the Special Olympics is one of the best sporting experiences you will ever encounter.

Former Olympic swimming champion Mark Tewksbury is also taking in this week’s games. He thinks Thunder Bay is uniquely suited for the games because of the special experience for athletes and spectators. Tewksbury says our size makes it ideal “because we make an impact in the community, people know about it (and) stands are filled at all the venues.”

  • Originally from southern Ontario, Jason found his way here and fell in love with the community and music scene of Thunder Bay over twenty years ago. In between various stints on radio, television and writing, Jason is a dad, a partner and (some would consider) a zoo keeper (seriously, he has a LOT of pets).
