I was never a big fan of the music that we used to get in video games ‘back in the day’. I used to really hate 8 Bit music, you know, the sound of the songs we’d get on Commodore 64 games, or early Nintendo, Intellivision, etc. I have, however, found a lot of nostalgic enjoyment hearing popular songs reimagined as 8 Bit tracks, much the same as hearing a Motley Crue bluegrass cover makes me smile. This weekend I found a YouTuber who recreated Huey Lewis and the News songs (and ONLY Huey Lewis and the News) on his Commodore 64 back in the early 80’s. He had lost the access to his original floppy disks but recently found them and was able to access them again. He’s uploaded a bunch of his covers to his YouTube channel and some of them are pretty catchy! You can hear ‘Doing It All For My Baby’ below, and if you follow the link here, you can check out more of his work!
I want to put it on and play the original Legend of Zelda now…
