East End Fire Now An Arson Probe

City police are now treating a recent fire in the city’s East End as an arson.

They say an investigation into the fire at 701 McLaughlin Street last Friday night indicates it was likely deliberately set.

The blaze, they say, appears to have started outside in the back of the two-story residence causing significant damage to the home and also the home right behind it on Connolly Street.

A family who was trapped on the second floor was safely rescued.

The Major Crimes Unit is now looking into the circumstances surrounding this fire.

Anyone who may have surveillance footage in the area of the incident is urged to contact the Thunder Bay Police Service.
