There are increased calls from local leaders on getting a new district jail for the Thunder Bay area.
The latest to add their voice to the issue is Nishnawbe Aski Nation Grand Chief Alvin Fiddler who says the jail has gotten worse since the last time he visited.
“What is shocking is that nothing has been done to address the conditions there. To see four people crammed into one little cell is something that isn’t fit for humans,” Fiddler said.
Recently, the provincial government told city officials they were close to handing out the construction contract for the new jail.
