2020 will bring with it a newly revamped terminal for the Thunder Bay Port Authority. CEO Tim Heney tells us their project cargo terminal is in the final stages. “The railyard is ready now and the building should be open by June. We are looking forward to that because we should have a much bigger year in 2020 in terms of project cargo, wind turbines and stuff like that.”
Heney explains that the project cost about $16 million dollars and they put in $8 million, with the remainder coming from provincial and federal funding.
The new heated facility is 50,000 square feet in size and was started in 2018. The project reconfigures the terminal allowing for more lay down area and increases their capacity.
