Students and employers in the region gathered Monday at the St. Joseph’s Heritage Health Care Career Fair. The career fair welcomed professionals, students, and new graduates to network with 15 exhibiting health care organizations from Thunder Bay and throughout the region.
Wesway’s David Freeman tells us they are always in need of respite workers and that’s why they decided to take part. He tells us there is a real need for people who want to help those with special needs or with chronic illnesses, and the job involves helping those individuals with their day-to-day care and with social activities.
Jennifer Burn is with Brain Injury Services of Northern Ontario and says this networking event is a good opportunity for them too since they have multiple positions they need to be filled. Burn notes there are lots of opportunities to grow in their organization and called the networking event a worthwhile opportunity.
Mayor Bill Mauro was the key speaker at the event and he recalled how when he was on City Council previously he pushed for a permanent position to recruit health care professionals and now we have one funded by the City’s Community Economic Development Commission.
