Former Local Musicians Back In Concert

It’s a visit back home for musicians with deep Thunder Bay roots.

Merrie Klazek played with the Thunder Bay Symphony Orchestra and teaches at the University of Victoria. Her husband Pierre Schryer, an award-winning fiddler, ran the Canadian Celtic Celebration music festival for 16 years and earlier in life made waves touring with his brothers as the Schryer Triplets.

The two and their children Kyran, 19, and Tamsyn, 15, will be playing at Urban Abbey at 7:30 tonight with the music ranging from baroque to celtic to pop.

Klazek says after moving to the West coast last August, they’re glad to be back in town.

“We built a very, very strong community both in the events that we’ve presented, but also through the connections we’ve made with our kids,” she explains. “This particular visit is important to us because we’re performing with the kids, and that’s really unique in that we’ve never done a full family show before.”

Schryer feels Thunder Bay audiences are “one of the best,” noting the reaction to the event on social media has been more than he expected.

“Just that support that we get locally, and the shares that we get, mean that there are people here that want to see us, and we want to share this event with folks as well.”

“There’s a very wide demographic of people that we’re looking forward to seeing from all the walks of life we experienced in Thunder Bay,” adds Klazek.

Tickets are available at the door or Calico Coffeehouse.
