Wake The Giant Announces 2nd Festival

The Wake the Giant Festival is coming back in 2020.

Officials announced this afternoon that they will hold the second annual music festival on September 19th.

Organizer and Dennis Franklin Cromarty High School staff member Sean Spenrath says students were excited to be part of the first festival, and he hopes to see them back on stage again. He isn’t revealing the line-up yet, noting it will be announced in the spring.

Spenrath isn’t naming any specific artists, but says they will once again focus on Canadian and Indigenous musicians.

The Wake the Giant movement launched in March of this year and organizers say more than 300 businesses have come on-board, signaling to Indigenous students that they are a safe space. Spenrath says many establishments have been connecting with the students, either welcoming them into their businesses or visiting the school to speak to them.

Nearly 4,000 people came out to the Wake the Giant festival this year.
