The Ontario government will be supporting workers impacted by layoffs at the local Bombardier plant.
The province is investing $613,000 to provide them with training and services to get them back to work quickly.
A centre is now in operation at the Unifor Local 1075 on 112 West Gore Street with people on hand to assist laid off workers. That help can range from writing resumes, training for job interviews and connecting them to possible job and training opportunities. A counselling service is also available.
Provincial Labour Minister Monte McNaughton says ” with this Action Centre we are giving Bombardier workers in Thunder Bay” a chance “to land on their feet and get back to work.”
The Action Centre also has a website to keep workers information about any new developments.
The company started laying off employees at the plant three weeks ago because of a lack of work. Those layoffs are expected to total about 550 by the end of December.
