There is still no sign Bombardier has been able to find any more work for its local plant.
The company tells our newsroom “we continue to bid for work” something union spokesperson Dominic Pasqualino appears satisfied with.
While he does not know what Bombardier is bidding on, Pasqualino is hoping some of that work is here in Ontario. “I know that there should be a lot of work for Ontario,” says the union official adding it’s important to get the three levels of government working together to win those contracts “as soon as possible.”
The transportation giant is in the midst of laying off about 550 local workers because its Toronto Transit Commission contract has come to an end.
If there is no new contract by the end this year about 250 workers will be left to work on remaining bi-level cars for Metrolinx and some work transferred from the Bombardier plant in Kingston.
