Extortion Trial Could Get More Riveting

It has the potential to be another intriguing day at the Keith Hobbs extortion trial.

Today, the investigating OPP detective in the case is expected to stay on the stand. Yesterday his videotaped questioning of the former mayor was played and Hobbs was heard on the video getting quite combative accusing the detective of trying to “railroad” him.

Since the day the trial started, there has been a lot of testimony from witnesses and video evidence which has made the private lives of those involved in the case very public.

Former mayor Hobbs, his wife Marisa, and co-accused Mary Voss are accused of trying to get a $400,000 house from the alleged victim. Four weeks have been set aside for the proceedings. A strict media ban prevents our newsroom from identifying certain individuals in the trial or telling you about some of the evidence.

There are four weeks scheduled for this trial but many feel it will be wrapped up by week three.

This will be the final day of the Keith Hobbs extortion trial at the Thunder Bay Courthouse.

Friday is a day off so one of the lawyers can attend a scheduled event in southern Ontario and it also happens to be the judge’s birthday.

  • Originally from southern Ontario, Jason found his way here and fell in love with the community and music scene of Thunder Bay over twenty years ago. In between various stints on radio, television and writing, Jason is a dad, a partner and (some would consider) a zoo keeper (seriously, he has a LOT of pets).
