Not Much Longer Before Snow Cleared

The heavy snow has been making it tougher for city crews to clear the main streets they’ve been working on since 2 o’clock this morning.

Roads manager Brad Adams tells us despite the difficulty they have managed to clear most of the main streets.

“Just from the weight of the snow there might be some trees down, or holding down wires that are hanging low over roadways. And that kind of impeded our progress in plowing some streets.”

The city is hoping to get all the snow cleared from residential sidewalks soon.

“Probably going to be doing the arterial collector sidewalks all day today. Again it’s resulting from the volume and weight of the snow we’re pushing. So hopefully we’ll be having those done today, and then we’ll move into local street sidewalks tomorrow.”

The roads manager adds the lack of snowbanks is also slowing their progress down.

He explains when there’s a snowbank, the driver has a better idea of how close to get to the curb, in that he can bump right up against the snowbank with less concern of damaging the vehicle or the curb.

When there’s no snow, greater care must be taken to ensure the driver doesn’t hit anything.
