Bearskin Lake Evacuees Arrive

Bearskin Lake residents are now staying in the city due to flooding from the Severn River.

Fire Chief John Hay says the city is prepared to help them just like previous evacuees.

“Initially, it’ll be making sure they have accommodation, food, any medical needs are taken care of. As the evacuation moves on, we’ll be adding other services if possible.”

The first plane with 37 evacuees arrived this afternoon, and we are expecting a total of 150 to 180 by the end of the day.

Other evacuees from the community were sent to Sioux Lookout this week.
