Work is now well underway at the site of the new Lakehead University Athletic Centre.
LU spokesperson Tom Warden indicates the contractor will be preparing to work through the winter. He says the major job will be to get some walls up so the construction crew can work during the cold months.
Warden explains barring any unforeseen problems, the new centre is expected to be ready for students by the start of the next school year. So far the contractor has not come up against any early delays.
While the addition is considered an expansion to the Lakehead University Fieldhouse, Warden notes it is essentially a new building. As well as having new sporting facilities, like a new gym and two weight rooms, it will include a new entrance, amenities for students like a pharmacy, sports medicine clinic and options for health eating.
So far, the cost of the new building has not been made public.
