Fewer Birds Banded On McKellar Island

Officials at the McKellar Island Bird Observatory are a little disappointed they had fewer chances to band migrant birds this fall.

They recently put bands on 938 birds this past fall, of that amount 63 species were identified and banded, however, the migrant birds passed through too quickly for them to capture them.

Banding birds help keep track of the movements of the bird and its life history. Birds that were banded this year include the Western Palm Warbler and the Nashville Warbler to name a few.
