Greater Scrutiny Of Cell Phones Starts

Students, keep your phones in your pockets or bags.

Today is the day that the provincial government’s new restriction on personal mobile devices in classrooms comes in to effect.

The new rules say that phones can only be used during class if the use meets one of three criteria; for educational purposes as directed by the teacher, for health and medical purposes or to support special education needs.

The change, which the Ford government announced during the summer, comes as a results of a provincial consultation on education reform which found that 97% of parents, students and educators said that there should be some sort of restriction on the use of cellphones at school.
