Bill Would Declare Opioid Crisis A Public Emergency

The opioid crisis in northern Ontario is being called a public health emergency by one northern Ontario MPP.

Jamie West, the NDP member for Sudbury is demanding the Ford government make the declaration official through his private member’s bill.

West points out the only overdose prevention site in the north is located here in Thunder Bay.

The MPP introduced his bill this afternoon and hopes ” all MPPs will show leadership” and join him and “vote for this motion and commit to fighting this epidemic and invest in saving lives in northern Ontario.”

The MPP introduced his bill at Queen’s Park this afternoon.

  • Originally from southern Ontario, Jason found his way here and fell in love with the community and music scene of Thunder Bay over twenty years ago. In between various stints on radio, television and writing, Jason is a dad, a partner and (some would consider) a zoo keeper (seriously, he has a LOT of pets).
