City Prepared For Provincial Funding Shortfall

City Council is bracing for a reduction in provincial government funding for its 2020 budget.

Mayor Bill Mauro tells us he took a call from the Minister of Finance this week, advising him that Thunder Bay’s share of Ontario Municipal Partnership Funding would be reduced by 2% or around $500,000.

Mauro tells us, “We do appreciate being advised earlier, it allows us to plan our budgets accordingly, and with more certainty, of course, it does represent a bit of a challenge because the number is reduced again from last year.”

However, the Mayor adds, “the early heads up allows the city to anticipate the reduction and allows them to do the work to accommodate it.”
