VIDEO: City Seeks Input On Dease Area

The revitalization of the Dease Pool and Park area will be taking centre stage next week.

The City is inviting residents to share feedback on ideas for using the Dease Pool and Park area.

Proposed changes for the Dease Pool site include:

  • Removal of the pool basin and change building
  • A fenced outdoor tennis/pickleball court
  • A community garden
  • A shaded sitting area with cultural historic story panels
  • Edible fruiting trees

Proposed changes to the Dease Park Site include:

  • Removal of an existing half-court basketball area
  • Creation of a large, green open space
  • A boarded rink with lights, asphalt surface to support multiple activities in the summer (ie basketball)
  • A permanent change room and washroom building
  • A larger playground
  • A new circular sitting area
  • A circular walkway path around the park
  • Large trees to buffer active play areas
  • Crab apple trees

In December 2018, City Council made the decision to close the 106-year-old Dease pool facility which had reached the end of its lifecycle.

A report on the potential future uses of the Dease Pool and Park sites which incorporates the public and stakeholder feedback will be presented to City Council later this year for further direction.

“We have developed a draft plan based on feedback from the community, neighbourhood demographics, park infrastructure gaps in the area, and programming delivered to date,” said Kelly Robertson, General Manager – Community Services.

“The proposed design is a good mix of active and passive activities and allows for the introduction of new recreational opportunities to the neighbourhood.”

In addition to public input, feedback will also be gathered from students at McKellar Park school and from the City’s Heritage Advisory Committee.

Two in-person consultation sessions are taking place on Thursday, October 31, 11 am – 1 pm, at the Victoriaville Mall Village Green and on Saturday, November 2, 5:30 pm – 7:30 pm, Fort William Garden Lobby.
