Firefighters Remain Without New Deal

The wait continues for the ruling on a new contract for 200 city firefighters.

They have been working without a new agreement for almost two years but City Manager Norm Gale says this is not unusual.

He says there have been some circumstances where decisions have been taken years and will not speculate as to how long this one will take because they “simply just don’t know.”

The city manager adds, he will not anticipate what the ruling might be but will accept its outcome.

The president of the Thunder Bay Firefighters Association echoes what Gale told us, refusing to guess on when the ruling will come down.

The arbitration hearing was held in June.
