Another Thunder Bay city councillor has been found in conflict of interest.
The city’s integrity commissioner is recommending McIntyre Ward councillor Albert Aiello not participate in voting on the rezoning application for a 58-bed transition home on Junot Avenue.
In his report to the city, the commissioner states Councillor Aiello is in conflict by virtue of the fact he is the Executive Director of the Boys and Girl Club of Thunder Bay.
The transition home for Indigenous youth is proposed for a site located next to the Boys and Girls Club.
The Commissioner also notes Red River Ward Councillor Brian McKinnon is in contravention of a rule which states you should not undermine or work against council’s decisions.
Specifically stated by the commissioner, “The role of elected officials, once a council decision is made, is to support the implementation of that decision, not to work against its implementation, publicly or behind the scenes.”
Aiello tells our newsroom he disagrees with the decision adding it’s “uncharted waters” for the city and he will wait to see what happens on Monday evening when the issue comes before council once again.
