Underserviced areas of Ontario are now getting help from the Ontario SPCA and Humane Society’s new state-of-the-art trailer.
The mobile wellness unit allows a vet and other OSPCA staff to travel to remote communities to offer appointments to pets, including rabies shots, and spay and neuter services.
The mobile unit recently visited Naicatchewenin First Nation, near Fort Frances.
Following their visit to Thunder Bay today, they’ll be driving the unit back to southern Ontario, where it is stationed when not in use.
The 38-foot mobile unit was made possible because of a grant provided by the Pet Valu family of stores through its Giving Back Project.
In the video above, you can see the unit features two surgical tables where 20-30 spay/neuter procedures can be performed per day.
Since it first hit the road in June, the mobile unit has performed more than 300 spay/neuter procedures, preventing an estimated 13,000 potentially unwanted kittens and puppies.
