Finnish Researcher To Teach At LU

Lakehead University is welcoming a new Finnish researcher to its staff.

Finnish Studies Advisory Committee spokesperson Ron Harpelle tells us they’ve appointed Dr. Kari Alenius who will be teaching in the history department.

“While he is here he will be teaching two courses on Finland and the Nordic region. He will also be conducting research. ”

The Finnish researcher will be looking into Canada’s attitudes toward Finland from 1900 to 1939.

His work will wrap up in our community this April.

The Finnish Chair was established with funding from the Canadian Suomi Foundation in 1996.

The LU official notes not many universities have this type of chair and its special for Lakehead.
