Hundreds Expected To Take Part In Climate Change Rally

The environmental organization Fridays for Future Thunder Bay is hosting a climate strike starting at noon today.

Spokesperson Kelsey Agnew says they are gathering at the local MPs office on Red River Road to demand our local, provincial and federal governments take action.

“Tell the truth about climate change, act like it’s a crisis, unite behind the science, make a path forward based on social and environmental justice, those are initiatives we want every level of government to be excited about.”

The event is expected to wrap up at 5.

Officials feel this will be one of the largest environmental rallies held in Thunder Bay to date.

Both local school boards have messaged parents about the strikes, asking them to contact the schools if their children have permission to miss school to attend.

Public Board Communications Officer Bruce Nugent tells us they would prefer if parents let them know if their child will be absent.

“It would just make things easier for us to know where the child is.”

The Lakehead Public School Board official adds students will be marked absent if they aren’t in class.
