The head of the local Bombardier workers’ union says companies in another northern city is reaching out to laid-off Thunder Bay plant workers.
Dominic Pasqualino indicates it’s a good thing that plants in cities like Sault Ste. Marie are trying to recruit Bombardier workers who will lose their jobs in November.
“It would be Thunder Bay and the Bombardier plant’s loss if these people go somewhere else, but I expect those people to take care of their families and make sure they get a regular paycheque coming in.”
The union spokesperson says some workers have left to relocate already, suggesting it’s upsetting that more than 500 workers are in this position because of the impending layoffs.
“If they knew that there was work coming to the Bombardier plant in the next four or five months, perhaps they might wait it out, but at the end of the day I know that our workers are very valuable and that other companies are going to be looking for them.”
