Testing Shows No Toxins In Lake Algae

The test results are in from the Ministry of the Environment, and the blue-green algae discovered on Hawkeye Lake near Thunder Bay is NOT toxic.

It comes as no surprise to Lee Sieswerda of the Thunder Bay District Health Unit.

He says in addition to blue-green blooms not being overly common in the area, “the few times we have had them in the past; the toxin analysis has been negative.”

The testing followed a warning by the District Health Unit to campers on the lake to stop using the lake water for any kinds of bathing or drinking until the results came back.

It caused a lot of worry among many of them for the health of their families and pets.
