Councillor Withdraws Truck Route Challenge

A bid to give up on the Designated Truck Route was pulled from city council’s agenda at the last minute.

Councillor Brian Hamilton filed a motion to start the process on Monday night, but city staff explain it was dropped from the agenda.

He was set to put forward a Notice of Motion to Suspend the Rules, which if passed would have been followed by a Notice of Motion to Rescind the Designated Truck Route. City staff explain that if it had been approved, it would retract council’s decision to pursue the truck route.

Because the motion never made it to the floor, city staff continue to work on the by-law that would lay out how to enforce the truck route. When the topic was last at city council, it rejected the proposed by-law.

Hamilton declined to comment on the motion and its withdrawal.
