Crews Holding Forest Fires

Two major fires in the region are now being held, according to the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry.

The fire eight kilometres south of Keewaywin is now over 96,000 hectares and officials say it’s not likely to spread any further.

A 30,000 hectare fire north of Red Lake is being kept at its current size.

However, the fire southwest of Pikangikum remains out of control at around 44,500 hectares, as crews keep working on hot spots.

The fire hazard is low to moderate, with some pockets of high hazard in the Nipigon District.
