Pee Pardon

I think most parents have been here, no matter how many times you ask your kid(s) if they need to go to the bathroom before you leave the house/mall/restaurant/wherever by the time you hit the car, they don’t have to go until it’s incredibly inconvenient. AND at that point it’s usually an emergency as well. Heck, we’ve probably all forced our kids to go sit on the toilet and TRY to go with the same results. I know I have it happen on multiple occasions. I actually have a friend who had it happen almost every single time she left the house. Sometimes there is the chance to make it back into the bathroom, usually that involves holding the child like a ticking time bomb, running like a bat out of hell and possibly screaming: ‘MOVEMOVEMOVEMOVEGOTTAPEEEMERGENCY!!!’…at least in my case.

Sometimes though, there just isn’t time. As a kid growing up in the country, we’d just pull over and pee in the ditch when it happened. No harm, no foul. What about when it happens in town though? An adult taking a whiz in the mall parking lot, or on the wall behind a restaurant is not only NOT something you’d want to see, it’s likely preventable. What about a 3 year old though? Do you let them go in the parking lot, or do you make them have their ‘accident’ in their pants (and have to deal with that clean up: wet pants, unhappy child crying (Screaming), a wet car seat…)? Personally, I have let my kids just go. When possible, I have taken a bottle of water and diluted the…’mess’…but sometimes that’s not possible either. Realistically, no one WANTS to see someone urinating in public, but for kids, it’s just going to happen. As far as I’m concerned anyway.

One pregnant mom in Georgia just had to deal with an emergency and was charged with ‘Disorderly Conduct’. Apparently a County Sheriff spotted her letting her three year old pee in the parking lot of a gas station (no bathroom available) and charged her. If she was convicted she would face up to 60 days in jail and a $5000 fine! Thankfully, the judge dropped the charge and dismissed the case. The lawyer for the mom said, “Mom took care of the emergency. That’s what we expect of all good moms.” Personally, I agree 100%.

I mean, if you were going to charge someone, charge the kid! (I’m kidding!!!!) What’s your take? Pee their pants or let it fly?
