VIDEO: Fond Farewell For City Clerk

You won’t see City Clerk John Hannam when Councillors return from their summer break next month.

He’s stepping down in August, but his final City Council meeting was this Monday.

On Monday night, Hannam says he’s enjoyed working with all departments at City Hall.

He notes it’s been an honour to work with the City for 21 years.

“Whether it’s the current or past councils, it’s the institution of local government that I’m particularly keen on supporting. It’s been my privilege to be able to do that here, for the City of Thunder Bay.”

Hannam also received a standing ovation along with some retirement gifts at Monday’s meeting.

City Manager Norm Gale says Hannam is “noted and respected” across the province for his work, and has played key roles in the Association of Municipal Managers, Clerks, and Treasurers of Ontario.

Current Deputy Clerk Krista Power will officially become the City Clerk on August 2nd, and the city has already started looking for someone to fill her current role.
