Billboard Supports MMIWG Cause

A billboard reminding us of missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls is on display at the intersection of Memorial Avenue and the Harbour Expressway.

Lisa Cherry with Artists Against Racism, tells us it is part of a national billboard campaign the charity group has initiated.

She explains the organization wanted to do something for MMIWG for awhile and when the final inquiry report came out, they realized it was the perfect time to display the billboards “to keep the issue in people’s minds.”

The charity group official says Thunder Bay was chosen as a location for the billboard because she says we are known as “a hot spot where women and girls go missing.”

Cherry says the billboard will stay on display in the city until Sunday at midnight.

Billboards are also located in Halifax, Moncton, Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto, Winnipeg, Saskatoon, Edmonton, and Vancouver.
