Thunder Bay’s mayor is having a public meeting today at 4, at city hall over what he calls the complex indoor turf facility.
Bill Mauro adds he wants all councillors to ask questions of city administration, such as the cost.
“That will be impacted by decisions around site, by decisions about size, by the chance of success with provincial and federal funding.”
The mayor is hopeful council will decide Monday night.
“What I hear is there’s some people who obviously don’t want it, they think it’s unnecessary. I would say if I had to, most people seem to be supportive of the idea, in my mind, believe it’s an important priority for the city. I feel that way.”
The mayor adds the size of the building, where it’s put, and other government sources of funding play crucial roles for when council is expected to decide Monday night.
“Potentially on the 24th, or shortly after, it may be a little longer, would make a decision. The programs that may be available to us, at least one of them, wouldn’t be available until the fall.”
