City Helping Mall With Truck Problem

The city is working with the owners of the County Fair Mall to keep the property from being used as an overnight truck stop.

City spokesperson Doug Vincent explains the mall area has seen a lot of damage from the big rigs over the years.

Vincent notes that includes light standards which have been knocked down, and loading walls which have been damaged.

Nearby residents have also complained about trucks left idling overnight and the odour which emanates from some of the rigs, most notably cattle trucks.

He says the parking lot was never designed as a truck stop and should not be used as one.

The city will be creating a by-law to prohibit the overnight use of the parking lot by trucks.
