The Lakehead Social Planning Council is trying to promote tiny homes as a way to ease homelessness.
Spokesperson Bonnie Krysowaty tells us tiny homes are just that, small houses up to about 600 square feet in size which can come at a reasonable price.
She says it would offer everything a home would need, like a cooking area, laundry facilities and outdoor space.
The social research official says ideally, tiny houses should cost between $20,000 to $60,000.
Kysowaty notes it can be “an inexpensive option” for those on low income who cannot afford a higher-priced home.
The planning council official notes they are trying to find federal funding in an effort to move the endeavour forward.
