Proposed Stormwater Fee Scrapped

You won’t have to pay a proposed fee that critics have called a rain tax.

It’s according to a memo to city council on Monday night, updating councillors on a storm water financing study.

The document advises that the storm water user fee be considered in the future, but notes that right now it’s not worth putting in place.

The memo says there would be high one-time costs to start, and increased costs to administer the rain tax going forward.

It recommends the city not make any changes to the ways it pays for storm water projects.

The city is paying $5.6 million for storm water management this year.
