An official from Bombardier’s head office painted a hopeful picture during a visit to the local plant.
Chief Operating Officer David Van der Wee says it was important to tell workers in person about the future of the plant, adding they’re in early talks with Metrolinx for more work.
“I wanted to go and meet my team directly and talk to them, make sure that they understand that I share their concern, [and] we’re working very, very hard to go and address that concern.”
He notes they’ve met with officials at “all levels of government.”
Meanwhile, the head of the union at Bombardier, Dominic Pasqualino tells us layoffs will be unavoidable.
“A contract of a significant size may make this less. We’re hoping to get multiple orders, and get large orders, and continue on the production that we have been in the past.”
Both the union and company official hope they can secure more contracts with the provincial and federal government.
