Reading Your Music

It was announced late last week that Blondie’s Debbie Harry is releasing an autobiography in October and has also contributed to a new book by punk icon Iggy Pop. I’d definitely be interested in checking both of those out as I do spend a lot of time reading books related to music, whether they be biographies or studies on how music effects the brain, or even fictional stories about bands. I recently read a really great book called ‘Daisy Jones & The Six’ by Taylor Jenkins Reid which was a fictional account of a young lady’s rise to musical stardom. Just before that I read Randy Bachman’s ‘Tales From Beyond The Tap’ which answered a lot of musical questions he had received over the years. It was a really fun book as well, he’s a great storyteller! My ‘To Read’ pile never seems to get any smaller, I have a LOT of stuff to catch up on this year and there is always something new coming out. It seems that the Rock Biography band wagon is still getting bigger and shows no signs of stopping! Next up for me is the Sebastian Bach (of Skid Row) autobiography, the Cyndi Lauper biography, Carl Dixon’s (of Coney Hatch) autobiography and a neat book about life on MuchMusic in the 1980’s by Christopher Ward.

Do you read books about music, or are you strictly a music listener? What have you read lately that you’d recommend I check out? Let me know in the comments!

  • Originally from southern Ontario, Jason found his way here and fell in love with the community and music scene of Thunder Bay over twenty years ago. In between various stints on radio, television and writing, Jason is a dad, a partner and (some would consider) a zoo keeper (seriously, he has a LOT of pets).
