City, Kingston Competing In Commuter Challenge

Thunder Bay is taking on a southern Ontario city for this year’s Commuter Challenge.

The national friendly competition asks you to walk, bike, bus, or carpool to work or school from June 2nd to 8th.

Last year, our city placed first in the province and second nationally against similar-sized cities, beating the city of Kingston. That community had the most people taking part out of all mid-sized cities for the previous five years.

Mayor Bill Mauro has accepted a challenge from the mayor of Kingston, Bryan Paterson, agreeing the city with fewer participants will raise the other’s flag at their city hall.

The losing Mayor will also wear a shirt representing the winning city at the June 17th flag-raising.
