Man Dies After Accident On Jackpine River

A 72-year old man from Shuniah is dead after a kayaking accident on Jackpine River, just north of Highway 17.

Police say it was late Saturday morning, when they were notified of a distress call from an emergency locator beacon on the river.

They add a witness told them the person in the kayak went under water, got trapped in some rocks, and didn’t resurface.

It wasn’t until Sunday night at 9, when emergency crews found the body of Robert Sare.

  • Originally from southern Ontario, Jason found his way here and fell in love with the community and music scene of Thunder Bay over twenty years ago. In between various stints on radio, television and writing, Jason is a dad, a partner and (some would consider) a zoo keeper (seriously, he has a LOT of pets).
