Ontario’s NDP is reporting the PC government is cutting Northern Ontario health units from nine down to just two.
They say the Northwestern Health Unit merging with Thunder Bay.
The other northern region will consist of Nipissing, Muskoka, North Bay, Parry Sound, Sudbury, Algoma, Timiskaming and Porcupine.
The government says the move is intended to reduce health-care bureaucracy and overlapping administration duties, which they project will result in annual savings of 200-million dollars by 2022.
Acadia News has reached out to the Health Unit for confirmation.
