Kashechewan One Step Closer To Relocation

A framework agreement is in place that will lead to the relocation of Kashechewan First Nation to higher ground.

Federal Indigenous Services Minister Seamus O’Regan, Ontario’s Indigenous Affairs Minister Greg Rickford joined with Kashechewan Chief Leo Friday in signing the document this morning.

O’Regan says implementation will take several years to complete.

In the meantime, repairs will be commissioned on a twenty-year-old dyke surrounding the community

Improvements to draining will also take place.

About 2,5000 evacuees from this year’s flooding remain housed in Timmins, Kapuskasing, Thunder Bay and Cochrane.

In between various stints on radio, television and writing, Jason is a dad, a partner and (some would consider) a zoo keeper (seriously, he has a LOT of pets).
