“Tough Decisions” Led To InterLibrary Lending Suspension

Kenora-Rainy River MPP Greg Rickford says that at the end of the day, governments have to make tough decisions.

The comments come after the suspension of the InterLibrary Lending program.

“While the base funding for libraries across the province was maintained and there were no cuts, there ceretainly (were) elements to it that we analyzed that had solutions like digitzation,” said Rickford.

He told us that the solution to the suspended InterLibrary lending program lies in modern technoloy.

Rickford added that the decision was made as the program doesn’t make sense in Southern Ontario with modern technology as it is.

The Kenora Public Library says that the service was put on hold following a 50 per cent cut from the Ford government to the budget of the groups who administer the program.
