The Trillium Gift of Life is raising awareness about the critical need for more organ and tissue donors in our community.
A recruitment campaign is underway as part of National Organ and Tissue Donation Awareness Week.
President and Chief Executive Officer Ronnie Gavsie says by registering your consent, you are making the caring and selfless decision to try and help save other lives after your death.
Gavsie stresses one organ donor can save up to eight lives and one tissue donation can enhance as many as 75 more.
She notes “Ontario has 1,656 people on the most medically urgent wait list for an organ transplant. That means there is no other treatment option.
Gavsie points out that unfortunately every three days we lose one of those people on the wait list.
She adds Dryden should be proud of their registration rate.
Gavsie says the City has an organ and tissue donation rate of 46%.
The provincial average is 34%.
You can give your consent by visiting any Service Ontario site or by visiting www.beadonor.ca
