Government Pressured To Relocate Kashechewan

First Nations leaders in northwestern Ontario are ramping up efforts to pressure the government to relocate Kashechewan.

Officials will be holding rallies at Queen’s Park and Parliament Hill this week as the remote community continues to be plagued by flooding.

Nishnawbe Aski Nation Deputy Grand Chief Derek Fox says they continue to waiting for the feds to fulfill promises to move them to a permanent new location.

“If we were non-native we’d have action already, you see in Ottawa the response is immediate, they pretty much call in the army to save everyone, why is that?”

Fox stresses First Nations are Ontarians and Canadians just as much as they are in Ottawa.
