A former mayor of Fort Frances has died.
Dan Onichuk passed away Sunday while in hospital.
Family members confirmed his passing on social media.
Onichuk served as mayor between 2003 and 2006, losing in a bid for re-election that year to Roy Avis.
He made another run for mayor in 2014.
Onichuk was also the head of the United Food and Commercial Workers Union representing grocery store workers with Safeway.
